Optimising Your Hi-Fi

A good Hi-Fi system will perform as well as its environment will allow. Put another way, a well set up less costly system can easily outperform a poorly set up more expensive one.

As the dynamic range of systems increase, the more the limiting factors will be electrical and mechanical noise getting into, and destructively interfering with, the system.

Equipment tables deal to a lesser or greater extent with mechanical noise (in the form of feedback and transformer noise).

Electrical noise in the environment can be dealt with by attention to power cabling, interconnect and speaker cables.

Optimisation of these environmental factors can lead to very significant improvements in the performance of any good system, but where top performing systems are concerned, these factors are fundamental to achieving the best results.

MusicWorks ReVo table

Purity of form often comes from the pursuit of purity of function. The beauty in the shape of a Stradivarius violin is the inevitable consequence of making the world's finest sounding violin.

We have been asked which industrial design company came up with the design of the ReVo table. to the questioner's surprise, the answer is none. The ReVo table is the consequence of form following function!

The truism that a well set up modestly priced system can outperform much more expensive kit that is less well set up is easily demonstrated using the ReVo. In fact in a recent Thursday evening listening session, all seven listeners preferred the good £550 CD player on the ReVo to the excellent £4,000+ CD player on our previous reference!

ReVo 100% acrylic 3 tier equipment table £895 (10mm acrylic) £1250 (15mm acrylic).

For a short period, customers who have purchased a Quadraspire / MusicWorks acrylic reference table from us can save 25% on the above prices.

This could easily be the most important Hi Fi product that we have heard in the last 10 yrears.

For the first time we are starting to exploit the promised dynamic range advantages of CD and SACD. Listening on CD to our favourite digital and analogue recordings on the ReVo table reveals a wealth of previously unheard musical detail. Whether it is hearing further into the acoustic of recordings, being able to follow complex instrument lines, illumination of subtle rhythm patterns...new insights are gained on every recording.

Of course the ReVo table is standing on the shoulders of previous developments such as the ReFlex mains block, but the leap forward it provides is difficult to overstate, or indeed for us to come fully to terms with.

Finally I must acknowledge some fellow travellers currently at the vanguard of what is the most exciting development in Hi Fi in the last 20 years. Firstly Hi Fi Plus with their articles and show demonstrations of the differences ancillaries make in system performance. High end dealer, Blade Audio in Surrey (www.lyngdorfaudio.co.uk/blade) are also pushing forward the boundaries of audio performance, through system set up.

Dedicated Mains Supply for Hi Fi & A/V

In conjunction with Mark at BluTech, our electrical installation guru, and with the experience we have gained in developing MusicWorks products, we are pleased to offer a dedicated mains supply installation service. Using a double screened high current cable, you get the benefit of a dedicated feed to your Hi-Fi system, and a reduction in electromagnetic pollution. The socket, again selected for its audio performance is wired back to your consumer unit on it's own dedicated feed, wired to optimise system performance.

Typically the service will cost around £500, and will easily justify itself in the context of the improvement in performance. For those who wish to obtain a no compromise performance, cryogenically treated cable and sockets are available.

Contact the shop for more information.

The AudioWorks in Hi Fi + Magazine

In the current issue of Hi Fi Plus magazine is an article on the AudioWorks, and our approach to system set up. Link to Hi Fi Plus Article HERE .

Steve Dickinson does an outstanding job of describing how set up of a system can radically improve its performance, and hopefully will provide those people (and we know there are a lot of them out there) who are convinced that their system isn't performing as it should, with a way forward.

This system, or one very similar, will be on demonstration at the Sound & Vision Show in Manchester, and the Bristol Hi Fi Show.

MusicWorks ReFlex Mains Block

It is very difficult to explain how important the source of mains power is to a Hi-Fi (or A/V) system. However it is very easy to demonstrate the dramatic improvement a MusicWorks mains block can make. Now the best has just got better with the introduction of the ReFlex mains block.

Taking as its starting point the MegaBlock Plus, the ReFlex uses an acrylic sandwich to isolate the internal connections from the environment. Cryogenic treatment of wiring and metal internal parts lower noise further. Microphonically induced noise is reduced in the mains inlet cable through use of critical damping.

The MusicWorks ReFlex block is £495, with a trade in scheme for owners of other MusicWorks blocks. Book your demonstration today.
