So what are the considered opinions of the assembled experts?
Progress or is the clue still in the name? |

freesat hd is a very good service
workin at currys i plugged it in on launch day next to my sky hd demo on a small 19 inch hd ready tv and tuned it in, nothing on hd but bbc hd preview so put it on that and also bbc hd on the sky box, to my shock the little hitachi looked better than the samsung series 5 full hd tv.
definetly worth while for non-sky subscribers _________________ flea |

| The Free Sat demonstration that I saw at my friend's home was excellent. However most of the free satellite stuff that's available isn't in HD & non-HD material on Free Sat is out performed by Freeview, or at least was on the demonstration that I saw. |

That's very interesting, there is no reason for Freeview to outperform Freesa, quite the reverse since Freesat has a much larger bandwidth at it's disposal. |

I'd almost forgotten that in the dim & distant past I'd belittled Freesat.
Recently for the first time in a long time I saw my friend's Humax Freesat box & the picture quality of non-HD broadcasts has been vastly improved since I last saw it.
Yes, I have got new glasses since I last watched Freesat, but seriously the big improvement has come about because Humax have updated the software within the Freesat box.
I'm so impressed that I too am now the proud possessor of a Humax Freesat box. |

One thing which puts me off getting a Freesat box is that, I understand, you still need a satellite dish. Thereby at a stroke making your house look like a council house. [/snob]
Seriously, though, I presume you do still need a satellte aerial, and signal quality will depend on the quality of that aerial, and of its installation? _________________ What? Sorry, you'll have to speak up. I said, you'll have to speak up. What? Sorry, I said... |

Correct.
In years gone by I've watched Sky Sports in pubs where the picture has disappeared during very heavy rain. I don't know if this was due to less than perfect set up though.
So far I've not experienced any loss of picture but we've not had any exceptionally heavy storms since I've started to use Freesat.
I've never had any reception problems with Freeview but a few years ago my parents did when the atmospheric pressure was exceptionally high/low (I can't remember which). |

| I should also add that Free Sat doesn't have all the same channels as Free View. Free Sat has most channels that Free View does but it does not have Yesterday, Sky News or Sky Sports News. |
